Avoca
Avoca is a small town near Arklow, in County Wicklow. The Avoca area has been associated with its famous copper mines for many years and the valley has been immortalised by Thomas Moore in the famous song The Meeting of the Waters. Avoca is the village where the BBC series Ballykissangel was filmed. In 1966 and it was one of the locations used in the film “Jules Verne’s Rocket to the Moon”. Happily, it also has plenty of top class golf opportunities tt, not least the exceptional Woodenbridge Golf Club

WOODENBRIDGE HOTEL & LODGE ***

Family owned and run; the Woodenbridge Hotel dates back to 1608, making it the oldest in Ireland. There are 23 spacious ensuite bedrooms, some of them overlooking the Woodenbridge golf course, all with TV, telephone and tea tray. For dining a visit to The Redmond Restaurant is full of character, colour, and comfort is a breath of fresh air to conventional hotel dining establishments. The recently built Woodenbridge Lodge is adjacent with 40 ensuite rooms of at least the same high standard.

Woodenbridge and all of its beauty and delightful golf is just across from the hotel and Arklow – a links with wonderful greens – is a relatively short drive down to the coast. At Coollattin there are several occasions when you will stand on the tee box and ponder where to hit the ball. Courtown is an excellent parkland course with an abundance of mature trees and stunning views of the sea and the coastline. Founded in 1936, each of the 18 holes poses a unique challenge for golfers of all levels
